Brunei Computer Emergency Response Team (BruCERT) today held an awareness talk on cybercrime at Politeknik Brunei in the capital. A total of 121 students from the School of Information and Communication Technology were in attendance.

The talk covered issues such as Brunei’s Computer Misuse Act, social media trends and recent online threats such as ransomware, and the pros and cons of online shopping. Students were also treated to brain teasers such as spotting the difference between genuine and phishing websites. The event ended with a Q&A session where students asked for software recommendations to increase system security. Students also wanted to know the current methods of identity theft.

Pg Mohd Farid Zulhusni Pg Aziz, Lead Trainer at ITPSS/BruCERT presented the talk, assisted by Eddysham Sanif and Dayang Siti Nor Izuana Binti Ayob.
