The public are encouraged to visit BruCERT Carnival at ICC Berakas, where they can learn about information security and cyber safety by simply playing games. The carnival set up by Brunei Computer Emergency Response Team (BruCERT), offers four carnival-style games, each aimed at teaching the player an important lesson.

The Dumpster Diving game teaches people to be careful when throwing away their documents. Some documents such as bills or receipts contain sensitive personal information and can be used for identity theft or fraud.

Visitors can also get a Social Media Checkup to discuss whether they are using social media safely. The checkup aims to prevent people from falling victim to identity theft, cyber bullying, online grooming or online blackmail. Think Before You Post is another activity which addresses the issue of
over-sharing personal information online.

The Password Challenge encourages people to create strong passwords which are difficult to crack but easy for the user to remember. At the end of the carnival, the person with the strongest password will win a GoPro HERO4 Session. The winner will be announced on BruCERT’s social
media @BruneiCERT on Instagram and Facebook.

Participating in any of the games at BruCERT Carnival is free of charge, and visitors will also get a prize for each activity. Visit the BruCERT Carnival at TechXpo 2015 at Plenary Hall, ICC Berakas. Opening times are from 10am - 10pm daily until Sunday, 25 October 2015.

The carnival is one of many public awareness initiatives carried out by BruCERT. They also conduct talks for schools nation-wide and produce the Cyber Safe radio show on Pilihan FM, among others. To learn more about online safety and information security, please visit www.SecureVerifyConnect.info
