2023 2nd ASEAN-Japan Cybersecurity Working Group Meeting

Cyber Security Brunei (CSB) hosted the 2023 2nd ASEAN-Japan Cybersecurity Working Group Meeting this week in Bandar Seri Begawan. Representing Brunei Darussalam were senior officials from CSB, who were joined by delegates from Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, and the ASEAN Secretariat.

The working group provides an excellent platform for Brunei Darussalam and other ASEAN Member States (AMS) alongside Japan to discuss and coordinate on a regional level on ways to improve cyber security resilience.

In his opening remarks, Azman Iskandar Ariffin, Chief Information Officer of CSB, said that the meeting provides a multilateral platform for strengthening cooperation and opportunity to share strategies, knowledge, best practices, experience and promotes collective solutions to address cybersecurity issues and challenges.

The 2-day meeting consisted of discussions focused on issues related to capacity building, awareness raising, collaboration and cooperation in the field of cybersecurity. Brunei Darussalam has held the role lead country for joint awareness raising activities since 2019. The joint activity for this year is a cybersecurity awareness video competition among students in ASEAN member states and Japan, organized by Cyber Security Brunei.

The meeting ended with closing remarks from Mr. Watanabe Nobuhiro, Counsellor at Japan’s National Center of Incident Readiness and Strategy for Cybersecurity (NISC).
