The Digital Skills Training session organised by the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) concluded with a certificate presentation ceremony on Thursday.
Community Development Department of Belait District Head of Branch and guest of honour Rafidah binti Hidup presented the certificates.
Nineteen senior citizens from the Senior Citizen Activity Centre (PKWE), Belait District and Bestari Community Centre (PMB) attended the programme.
The programme to promote e-Commerce and digital literacy among the elderly was held at the Language and Literature Bureau Library in Kampong Pandan 7 from February 4 to 6.
It was conducted with cooperation from both the government and private sectors, with presentations and practical demonstrations by trainers and facilitators from the Department of Curriculum Development, Ministry of Education (MoE); IT Protective Security Services Sdn Bhd (ITPSS), as well as representatives from local e-commerce companies such as Naindah.com, Rotuku.com and Kedairuncit.com.
The programme covered topics including basic ICT skills, online safety and security, introduction to e-Commerce and its opportunities, useful mobile applications, online shopping as well as cybersecurity tips. The programme – first introduced in October 2019 at the PKWE in the Brunei-Muara District – has, to date, seen the participation of over 90 senior citizens.
AITI is also planning for future programmes to be conducted at the Senior Citizen Activity Centre in Temburong.
